I am reminded today of an article I read recently about Dr. Martin Luther King’s visit to Jamaica to speak at the University of the West Indies. The speech was titled “Facing the Challenge of a New Age.” Today, looking at this title through one lens, one could say after emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic, “Wow, What a visionary? Indeed he was.

Dr. King’s Theme That Still Works Today For Jamaica.

Though Dr. King is believed to have been referring to the success of the Civil Rights movement that was about to change America into what it is today, the theme is quite relevant. Dr. King, in his fight with WEB Dubois for labor rights and the battle for peace, also championed the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the March on Washington, and the fight against the Vietnam War.

Dr. King’s theme is handy today as COVID highlighted our fears, added new ones, and laid out new uncertainties and challenges, a rash of new problems on top…
