One person can meaningfully and positively change the world. I am reminded of a young man, who went to jail 29 times for standing with Rosa Parks in her fight against inequality, walking with 40 thousand bus riders during the Montgomery bus strike to fight against the separate but equal laws when it was illegal to do so and countless other selfless acts. His name was Dr. Martin Luther King.
Today, Monday, January 18, 2021, is Martin Luther King Jr Day. A day when we recognize the life of a man who put himself in harm's way because he believed that Black, Brown, White, and people of all races can live together. His strong belief in nonviolent protest helped set the tone of the civil rights movement. He was a leader who fought for the cause of all people. His legacy is about strengthening diversity and inclusion.
Due to his work and sacrifice and that of many other freedom fighters; I've lived to see a Black President, Barrack Obama. And currently and very significantly, a Black female Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris (a Jamaican), about to be installed this week on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
Today, as we celebrate MLK day, it's a reminder for us to be purposeful in our daily tasks to help others and meaningful in making a difference. Dr. Martin Luther King is a great model of the fact that one person can make a difference in this world.
Happy MLK Day!
